Why people wear jewelry in shape of metals, stones or sometimes leafs?
Through centuries people are wearing or wishing to own jewelry in shape of metal, precious stones, leafs or sometimes feathers and beads. Is it to impress others, show their wealth, change their fortune or they are simply scared of death to avert? We have witnessed so many killings because of these precious and semi-precious stones, so many ill doings attached to these stones, trying to prove love in history through these stones and metals which changed hands and many a times brought havoc to the possessors. Is it really something to do with luck? What magic is there and how it works? Do these stones and metals really work on your body, have some powers to change your life, good or bad? Do these things really have any magical powers, taking away the miseries facing or changing for the betterment? Please help me, I am confused.
For 1 thing, they’re pretty–the object of ornamentation is to show wealth or affliation (class rings, lodge pins, etc), or to adorn & add to appearance. Some stones & metals were given beneficial associations (reasons are unknown, and sometimes contrdict themselves), so people have worn them for luck or health. I doubt they really work for the most part–unless you’re a firm believer (belief sometimes makes things work).
As for your question about conflicts: because we have assigned them values, they become desirable. I mean, think about it: gold is a lousy metal for most things because it’s too soft. Likely not valued very much in the beginnings of metal-working. But someone gave it an artificial value, & that concept has hung on. Same goes for diamonds, emeralds, amethysts, etc. Natural rarity adds to the value (supply & demand)–for example, genuine tanzanite is pricy because there isn’t a lot & the single mine is expected to run dry within 20 years or so.
As for actual feathers & leaves, they were worn before humanity learned to carve stones & smelt metals. When people began to wear metals & stones, they carved them into the shapes of what they wore before.
